Embrace technology in farming - banker

The head of business banking at Stanbic bank Mr Calistus Chijoro has encouraged farmers to embrace technology in their farming business endeavors.
Speaking during a price giving ceremony when giving a key note address on July 7, he said farming business is not easy as there is no time to rest, and as such commended farmers for showing resilience over the years.
Mr Chijoro told farmers to move away from old ways of doing things and take advantage of modern farming technologies so to be efficient in their farming and to be always abreast with emerging technologies.
He pointed out that as the main sponsor, they have decided to partner with Ghanzi show committee to show appreciation to farmers because they are doing a god job of providing the nation with food.
Furthermore he urged them to make it a habbit to share skills and knowledge if they want to be successful, the move he said will also benefit others as it has the ability to create more jobs.
Mr Chijoro said Stanbic bank is the pride of Africa because they have been involved in many projects across the continent such as financing roads, mines and power plants amongst other things.
Meanwhile the managing director of Security systems Mr Gabriel Nkgetse whose company was one of the sponsors at the show said there is a need for youth to consider venturing into farming so that they create employment for themselves and others.
He said time has come for them to utilise the resources around them so as to help government in employment creation, saying government alone cannot win the war against unemployment.
When presenting the prices, Mr Tefo Kebabope who was one of the judges at the show said it was important that when intending to exhibit at the show, exhibitors should prepare adequately and that they should provide a customer centric environment because all business exist because of customers.
Mr Kebabope said that all exhibitors should know that they are all winners and should treat the results as feedback so that they go back and to do better.
Under government departments, prisons department took position one, under parastatals Botswana International University of Science and Technology scooped the first price while in the private institution category security systems came first.
The new entrants at the show which also proved to be a hit with patrons was the dog race which was won by Mr Peter Sobusekwe with his greyhound named Quicksilver. ENDS
