09 Jul 2018
Member of Parliament for Bobonong, Mr Shaw Kgathi says school uniform brings dignity and encourages learners to attain good academic results.
Speaking at a handing over of school uniform to eight schools in an activity that started on July 5 to 7, Mr Kgathi stated that lack of proper uniform divides learners within the school and affects their academic performance.
A total of 3 973 pupils from eight primary schools of Lepokole, Mabolwe, Bobonong, Agosi, Madikwe, Modisaotsile, Mafetsakgang and Tsetsebye received the uniform.
This completes and brings to 19 all schools that have received school uniforms from the MP in partnership with World Group of Companies.
The donation, he said would go a long way as it would bridge the gap between the haves and have-nots especially to some parents who could not afford to purchase a complete school uniform for their children.
MP Kgathi said the partnership he had with World Group of Companies and its chairperson, Mr Rafik Sadar would bring dignity and respect to learners.
Mr Kgathi also minister for Defence, Justice and Security said as the area MP, said he had made it a priority to develop education and that schools in the area must become centres of excellence for good academic results.
I have partnered with the company to promote and empower children.
Mr Kgathi said the initiative started with the distribution of over 700 balls for soccer, netball and volleyball to all schools in Bobirwa and some parts of the country in 2014.
He explained that distribution of full school uniform was being done out of conviction and recognition of the important role education plays in the empowerment of children and its role in the upliftment of people from poverty.
Each child from pre-school to standard seven received a full uniform, pair of shoes and sweets, the teachers, PTA members and support staff from each school also received gifts that included blankets.
Mr Kgathi appreciated Mr Sadar for the gesture in providing a conducive learning environment to learners.
He also expressed hope that the majority of them would proceed to tertiary institutions.
He said earlier this year, Mr Sadar also sponsored the Bobonong constituency academic awards to the tune of P98 000.
He has also offered sponsorship to construct a clinic in Molalatau and the provision of P25 000 to Lentswelemoriti school for continuously attaining a 100 per cent pass in three successive years as well as the installation of computers at Borotsi School.
He also commended Mr Sadar for contributing P50 000 towards the construction of a computer lab at Mafetsakgang, while he together with alumni contributed P3 170.
Mr Sadar also promised to buy blankets to 1 500 elderly needy persons in the constituency who are registered with the department of Social and Community Development.
Mr Kgathi said the role of parents in education was to provide support to their children by attending meetings whenever called by teachers.
The uniform for boys comprised of a pair of two trousers, shirts, vests, socks, a pair of shoes, jersey and underpants while girls walked away with a full uniform that includes, dress, skirts, blouses, panties, socks, jerseys and a pair of shoes.
Each pupil was also given a packet of sweets. ENDS
