Selebi Phikwe awards excellence

Selebi Phikwe region recently held an event to award schools, teachers and students excelling in academics.
In his remarks, Enterprises and Sales General Manager at BTCL, Mr Solomon Rabewu commended the region for doing exceptionally well in the 2017 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), Junior and Senior Secondary School Examinations.
He said the results were all due to the hard work of teachers, students and parents who played a role in their children’s education.
Mr Rabewu said despite the challenges that the schools experienced such shortage of resources and the negative impact of the closure of BCL Mine, the schools continued to do well.
He said as a nation, Batswana should work as a unit towards producing well rounded students who will be able to lead this nation into the future.
The chief education officer, Mr Elisha Masedi said since 2013, none of the primary schools in Selebi Phikwe obtained a pass rate below 70 per cent, which he said he was very proud of.
He said Selebi Phikwe junior secondary schools had always been among the top 10 nationally in final examinations and commended them for the good work, despite challenges.
The best performing government school prize for the 2017 PSLE results went to Rueben Mpabanga Primary School with a 98.5 per cent pass rate and an A and B pass rate at 63.1 per cent, followed by Lapologang Primary School with a 95 per cent pass rate and a quality (A and B) pass rate of 50 per cent.
The best performing junior secondary school award went to Meepong JSS with a 75.82 per cent pass rate and quality pass rate of A and B at 30.7 per cent.
Makhubu JSS got position two in the region obtaining a 66.7 pass rate and a 28.2 per cent A and B pass rate.
The best performing private primary school award went to Mount Pleasant Primary School, which obtained a 100 per cent pass rate and a 96.8 A and B pass rate.
The overall best performing student in the PSLE award went to Mantaga Nkwala from Rueben Mpabanga Primary School, over all best performing student in Junior Certificate was obtained by Thejane Phenyo Karabo from Mojamorago JSS while the best performing student in the BGCSE in the region went to Mosiiwa Owen Kobamelo from Selebi Phikwe Senior Secondary School.
The best performing student in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education was awarded to Rehanu Rehan Hakim from Morula Secondary School, who was rated among the top 10 in the world in Additional Mathematics.
Awards were also given to best performers in different subjects in primary, junior secondary and secondary school level.
Teachers, non-academic staff, head masters and deputies of schools that performed well were awarded certificates, while best performing schools in all categories were given trophies. ENDS
