Installation of street lights in Letlhakeng has commenced.
Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe informed residents of Letlhakane on Tuesday in a kgotla meeting that the project had started with installation of 10 streetlights and that all streets were expected to be connected.
The project was co-funded by Debswana and Constituency Fund.
He said the project would have a huge impact on the lives of Letlhakane residents and the Boteti community at large.
The legislator indicated that the new police station project, which was a full package, inclusive of staff houses, had been prioritised and would kick-start in 2019, adding that Letlhakane Hospital had also been included in the development plan.
Mr Lelatisitswe stated that new plots at Letsibogo ward were scheduled to be serviced with installation of water, electricity and gravelling of internal roads, adding that water and power network expansion were scheduled for Tawana extension as well as Phases One and Two extensions.
He also noted that Karowe Diamond Mine had funded a multi-purpose facility to the tune of P60 million, whose ground breaking was expected in January 2019.
The MP also stated that the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) office, which would also house the LEA office, was scheduled to re-open in Letlhakane.
Orapa Cut 3, he said, would also bring developments to the village as Debswana had been allocated land to build 600 houses, while Botswana Housing Corporation had also been allocated land to build 200 houses.
MP Lelatisitswe further stated that the primary sewer lines would be installed through funding from the World Bank and would be done only at bigger institutions such as the hospital and the senior secondary school.
He revealed that tarring of internal roads in Letlhakane was neither included in the District Development Plan nor the National Development Plan.
The MP was responding to one of the residents who had requested water network expansion at Tawana extension and another who had indicated that it was crucial for the village to have a sewerage system.
Residents appreciated that developments were evident in Letlhakane, saying it was a sign that they had visionary leadership.
One resident, Mr Boyce Tawana said they were proud of the developments taking place in Letlhakane, adding that facilities such as stadia would put the village on the map.
He also appreciated accessibility of water in Letlhakane, noting that equipping of two boreholes had addressed the issue of water shortage in the village, which had been an outcry.
He requested paving of some of the internal roads to reduce traffic congestion through constituency fund. ENDS
