KBL reducerelocate support function

Kgalagadi Breweries Limited has reduced and relocated some support functions due to declining profits margins as a result of what is considered to be a highly regulated market.
Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Mr Moiseraele Goya said the regulated market included the introduction of the alcohol levy and unfavorable trading hours for business in alcohol trading over the years.
He said KBL had since adopted a strategy to invest in more strategic roles as opposed to support functions adding that KBL had also closed opaque and cleared beer depots across the country.
Mr Goya said 350 jobs were lost since 2009 due to a number of reasons which included the closure of opaque and clear beer depots in Palapye, Lobatse and Selebi Phikwe.
Further, he said the figure included seven employees whose jobs were affected as a result of relocation of some operations from Finance and Procurement.
Lobatse MP, Advocate Sadique Kebonang had asked the minister to state if KBL had reduced its operations and relocated some outside the country and the number of jobs that had been lost due to the reduction and relocation.ENDS
