05 Jul 2018

Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Lelatisitswe Sethomo has implored Buuhe ward residents to take up government programmes to enhance their standard of living.

Mr Lelatisitswe said this on July 2 during a kgotla meeting at Buuhe ward in Letlhakane.

He urged them to apply for government programmes since a borehole had been equipped in their ward. Buuhe residents had since complained that they could not access government programmes such as LIMID because drinking water point for small stock was a requirement that was not available in their area.Mr Lelatisitswe encouraged them to make follow ups with social welfare officers with regard to the projects they had applied for.

He also encouraged women to apply for gender programmes to empower themselves. In addition, he said, the issue of installation of an additional stand pipe would be taken to the relevant authorities.

The MP also informed the residents that water accessibility had been enhanced by equipping two water boreholes in Letlhakane with a capacity of 90 000 litres an hour.

He told residents that Water Utilities Corporation was the only institution authorized to supply water, cautioning them against the idea of sourcing water from the ward borehole to supply the village through assistance of private entities. He advised them to request water network expansion in their ward.Mr Lelatisitswe indicated that BURS office in Letlhakane had also been expanded to provide all services locally.

In addition, he said classroom blocks had been extended at Supang Primary School, noting that attending lessons in outdoor areas would no longer be an issue.

He cautioned residents against using tribalism to advance their grievances.

The MP was responding to Kgosi Alfred Petelelo who had requested additional stand pipes as well as allocation of farm land for Buuhe residents. One resident, Mr Monkemisi Rankalapi also complained that he has since applied for a field allocation since 2001, but nothing had materialised yet.Gakebogotlhe Sethapelo asked whether he could not benefit from LIMID programme whilst enrolled on destitution programme.

Mr Baratamang Gobuwe complained that they had since been on destitution programme, saying lack of farming land had incapacitated them to sustain themselves. Whilst Ms Lillian Thanke complained that gender affairs department funds were insufficient, adding that there should be workshops aimed at capacitating and enhancing lives of underprivileged communities.
