Moineedi Primary School leads way
04 Jul 2018
Class of 2017 at Moineedi Primary School in Taupye have been encouraged to be proud of what they achieved and brag about it.
Officiating at the school’s PSLE victory celebrations recently, director of education, regional operations for Central Region, Mr Sonny Mooketsi said the good results attained by the school were worth celebrating.
The school came first in the 2017 PSLE results in the Mahalapye Sub-district, with an overall performance of 91.3 per cent.
Mr Mooketsi said the good results were not only worth celebrating by the Taupye community, but the central region as a whole, adding that as the largest region in the country, the performance of the schools in the central region had a greater impact on the overall results of the country.
“The central region takes a larger share of all the primary schools in the country, if we perform poorly, the whole country will be in pain, and as such achievements of schools such as Moineedi are worth noting,” he said.
Mr Mooketsi also stressed that parents, teachers and pupils played a vital role in achieving the good results.
He expressed concern about the poor results recorded by most of the schools in the region and therefore called on communities to form formidable working relationships with school authorities to achieve good results.
He cautioned pupils against the use of drugs as they ruined their future and was equally concerned about the ever increasing cases of girls getting pregnant while at school.
He said it was disheartening to see young girls at primary school being lured into sexual activities by elderly men, which will not only result in pregnancies, but the girls also risk contracting sexually transmitted infections.
Mr Mooketsi applauded the Taupye community, teachers, and other stakeholders, like the business community, for working together in encouraging their children to work hard.
Meanwhile, Mr Boitumelo Ditirwa, senior marketing officer at Collegium Publishers, noted that it was unfortunate that fathers were not seriously involved in educational activities and therefore applauded the few men who were fully involved in their children’s education.
He said as head of a family, a man must be exemplary by guiding children accordingly.
Mr Ditirwa further appealed to parents and teachers to listen to children to be able to identify their potential.
“You must be in a position to understand that young people are innovative and therefore will use their young brains to improve their learning,” he said.
Mr Ditirwa lamented that technological gadgets had added to concerns that the teachers encountered daily and therefore urged them to control the use of cellphones at schools as they encouraged bad behaviour and were a source of negative information.
He also handed a donation of P3 000 to the school on behalf of Collegium Publishers.
The school head, Ms Oaitse Keletso said the results were achieved through team work and applauded the community for working hand in hand with the school. Ms Keletso said the support of the business community, through the Adopt A School initiative could notgo unnoticed . ENDS
