Kgalagadi LACs not adequately staffed

Livestock Advisory Centres (LACs) at Tshane, Kang and Tsabong in Kgalagadi District are not adequately staffed, the Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi told Parliament on July 24.
He said each of the three centres was expected to be manned by both supplies and veterinary technical personnel, but due to shortage of staff country-wide, there was a technical assistant at Tshane, one senior supplies officer and one senior supplies assistant at Tsabong, while Kang had one assistant supplies officer.
“Officers from adjacent extension area offices have been appointed as revenue collectors so that they can relief when the LAC officer is on leave. This helps to provide services to the public during such times,” he said.
Mr Molebatsi was responding to a question from MP for Kgalagadi North, Mr Phillip Khwae who had wanted the minister to inform Parliament whether the three LACs were adequately staffed, and measures in place to ensure that in the event the staff is on leave the public continues to receive service.
