Ultimate Cycle Base Botswana will on August 18-19 host a premier two-day mountain bike stage race dubbed: The Gaborone Quest.

Speaking at a media briefing to launch the race sponsors recently, the event organiser, Kyle Popleton said the race would be divided into a 60km route on day 1 and a 55km one on day 2.

He said the event would start and finish at Phakalane Golf Estate and will have a new flowing single track as well as an urban spin on day 2 with water points.

Popleton said riders will compete as solos, but there will also be a corporate challenge, where the winning company will win a floating trophy.

He further said in order to bring all the fun into mountain biking, they decided to add entertainment to the list of activities with  local DJs, a kids fun area as well as a special appearance by Dylan Victor, a  five-time South African Trials National Champion.

“This race is a must. It is an opportunity for riders and their families to enjoy a weekend of scenic fun riding,” he said, adding that the distances for both days are short, with routes designed to accommodate riders of all levels of fitness.

Sponsors include Bank Gaborone, who presented a P250 000 cheque, Hollard Botswana with a P150 000 cheque and BBI with a P100 000 cheque.

Handing over the cheque, Bank Gaborone representative Sandra Mokobi said the sponsorship was an indication of the bank’s continued support for cycling in Botswana and how it wants to continue investing in Batswana.

She further said the Gaborone Quest sponsorship is in line with the bank’s purpose to be a connector of positive change.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Bank Gaborone is committed to giving Batswana a rewarding experience on all its platforms and we promise you a very exciting event,” she said.

Mokobi encouraged many to register for the race and bring friends and family along as it will be a time to engage and have fun. ENDS
