No budgetary provision for establishment of matimela facility
28 Jun 2018
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has told Parliament that there is no watering point or open space for grazing nor budgetary provision for the establishment of a matimela facility in Nkange.
Dr Venson-Moitoi was responding to a question from Nkange MP, Mr Edwin Batshu who had wanted to know when the ministry would establish matimela facility in his constituency in order to stop the current arrangement whereby matimela from the constituency were kept at Matsitama village in the Shashe West constituency, which was far away from farmers.
Dr Venson-Moitoi said available statistics show that during the financial 2016/17 there were only 22 matimela reports in the constituency while in 2017/18 there were four reports.
This financial year, only three reports have been recorded.
Based on this, the minister said it would be costly to establish a matimela facility in the constituency. ENDS
