SPEDU in process of building database
27 Jun 2018
Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Moiseraele Goya says SPEDU is currently in the process of building databases that profiles all companies (that is their product lines, their challenges and opportunities) which is expected to be completed by December 2018.
Mr Goya told Parliament on June 26 that his ministry presently did not have precise number of businesses that had shut down in Selebi Phikwe after the closure of BCL Mine because some companies closed without informing the Regional Chamber of Commerce nor SPEDU.
He said some companies completely closed shop while others downsized their employment numbers, so the total job losses would be known once the profiling of all companies was complete in six months.
Mr Goya further noted that 16 companies had established a presence in Selebi Phikwe since October 2016 where 754 jobs had been established.
Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the Minister the number of businesses that had shut down in Selebi Phikwe since or after the closure of BCL Mine.
He also inquired about the estimated job losses and the number of companies which had opened up since October 2016 and the estimated number of jobs created. ENDS
