Plans to construct a P900 000 new science laboratory at Itekeng Junior Secondary school in Ghanzi are underway.
Answering a question in Parliament on June 25, Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Thato Kwerepe said construction of the project would be carried out under Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in the current financial year.
He said there were two classes at Itekeng Junior Secondary school which were taught outside the classrooms while the other two classes were taught in the science laboratories.
He said situation would only be addressed in the next financial year, given that in the current financial year there was no budget allocated for expansion of classrooms at the school.
“The issues of access to secondary schools in the Ghanzi region will only be properly addressed when the request for the new school can be approved, unfortunately the project does not fall under NDP 11,” he said.
Ghanzi North Member of Parliament, Mr Noah Salakae had wanted to know if the minister was aware that two classes at Itekeng JSS in Ghanzi were still being conducted under trees and many others in Science laboratories.
He also wanted to know whether the situation would be addressed during this financial year, and if so, how much was budgeted and if not, when the situation would be normalised. ENDS
