24 Jun 2018
Botswana Oil Limited (BOL) company has donated four computers and a printer with a 12 months Internet subscription as well as stationery to Dikgonnye Primary School to help improve the learning process.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony in Dikgonnye recently, BOL general manager (supply) Mr Meshack Tshekedi said his company wanted to play a role in making sure that children achieved their dreams and goals.
He said BOL was of hope that the ICT equipment would help improve pupils’ performance, adding that they were aware of the challenges the school faced.
He said children, as future leaders, had to be assisted in their education to excel and enter different professions as their wishes may be.
Mr Tshekedi said at BOL they were determined to help others by uplifting their lives through their corporate social responsibility policy.
He said research had proven that with necessary support and stimulation, any child could be moulded into a high performing individual.
He expressed hope that Dikgonnye Primary School would produce high performing individuals who would lead Botswana to prosperity in years to come.
Mr Tshekedi said the energy sector was growing at an alarming rate and the need for specialised skills in this area was growing hence the need for skilled manpower.
The director of regional operations for Kgatleng Mr Kereng Koko highlighted that education was expensive hence the need for partnership with companies like Botswana Oil and others.
He said government came up with programmes like Adopt-A-School initiative to encourage other stakeholders to meet government halfway in the education sector.
Mr Koko, therefore, called on Botswana Oil to adopt Dikgonnye primary and help them attain better grades.
He said their ministry was likewise improving the education sector through Education Training Sector Strategic Plan where teachers taught children what they wanted to do and assist them to identify their gifts and talent.
The director said students of today needed to be guided and be assisted in what they loved and not force them to do what they did not want.
The school head, Mr Sebilo Motlhaping said the donation had become handy for them as they met a lot of challenges when they had to make copies for tests and examinations.
He appreciated the good gesture from Botswana Oil after he made a request for the assistance saying they would work hard to make sure the school performance improved. ENDS
