Game lodge donates television sets to reception classes

24 Jun 2018

Chobe Game Lodge has donated 10 television sets to reception classes in the Chobe region.

Speaking at the handing over of the sets recently, the lodge’s acting general manager, Ms Shayani Tsietso expressed hope that the donation would make learning faster through the acquisition of language skills.

The television sets, she said, would add to the existing teaching aids and make learning more interesting for reception learners.

“It is our hope at Chobe Game Lodge that the television sets will broaden the scope and sharpen the learners’ language skills,” she said.

She said the company was committed to participating in the region’s education system as evidenced by its adoption of Liswaani Secondary School in Kachikau.

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Machana Shamukuni said the donation was a noble gesture towards ensuring children got a good start in their education.

“It is indeed gratifying that Chobe Game Lodge is partnering with the region that is doing well in the Early Childhood Education and Care and has nine out of 10 schools with reception classes,” said Mr Shamukuni who is also Chobe MP.

He said the donation was in line with the Ministry of Basic Education’s framework for reform which among others aimed at ensuring that quality early childhood education was rolled out to the populace.

He expressed gratitude to the company for seeing it fit to join hands with the basic education ministry in building the future of the country.

The ministry, he said, had taken a bold and distinctive move to deliver the 21st century learner through its reforms such as the Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan adding that government was on a proper path towards realising the desired goal of achieving world class learning to compete in the knowledge based economy.

Mr Shamukuni said one of the factors contributing to the declining academic performance especially at secondary school level was the weak foundation hence government’s commitment to providing inclusive and equitable access to quality early childhood education and pre-primary programmes for all children.

He said one of the key areas to be exploited was the use of ICT in the teaching and learning processes hence the need to include E-learning in early childhood education and care.

“Government remains committed to nurturing in its schools self-regulated learners who are inquisitive and technologically inclined and we want to build a strong foundation so that every Motswana learner can compete in the global world but resources to provide such achievements are limited,” he said.

The assistant minister said for that reason government had reached out to other stakeholders for partnership and participation in the education sector.

Earlier, acting regional director (operations), Mr Lekolang Botumile had said the donation was in line with the ministry’s objective of encouraging stakeholder participation in the education sector.

He said stakeholder participation had contributed immensely to the good performance of the primary schools in the region.ENDS
