Ministry terminates company contract

21 Jun 2018

Ministry of Transport and Communications has terminated the contract with Bomag (Pty) Ltd due to non-performance of the contractor in November 2016.

The Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation Dr Unity Dow told Parliament that the company had been procured for reseal works of approximately 55 kilometres from Francistown to Matsiloje.

She said the contractor had since challenged the termination of contract on a technicality.

Dr Dow said the issues had not yet been resolved, but the ministry was in a consultative process towards the resolution.

She said no contractor had been awarded the tender to complete the work pending the resolution of the matter with the first contractor.

She was responding to a question from Francistown East MP Mr Buti Billy, who asked the minister to state the progress made towards the appointment of another contractor to complete the construction of the dilapidated portion of the Francistwon /Matsiloje road near the entrance to the Donga BDF camp and if the issues with the first contractor were resolved as at December 2017 as promised.

Mr Billy also asked who had been awarded  the tender to  complete the works, when the project would commence and at what cost. ENDS
