Over  42 000 cases were concluded at Magistrate Courts between 2015 and 2017 while the High Court completed over 12 000 cases during the same period

Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi informed Parliament that at Magistrates Courts, 13 222 cases were completed in 2015, 14 033 cases in 2016 and 15 536 cases in 2017.

The High Court, on the other hand, concluded  4 502 cases in 2015, 3 832  in 2016 and 4 023 cases in 2017.

Regarding the total of magistrates and judges, he said there were 79 magistrates  in 2015, 80 in 2016 and 86 in 2017.

He further said there were 23 High Court judges during the same period.

Nkange MP, Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the minister to state the number of cases concluded by Magistrate Courts and High Courts during the period between 2015 and 2017. ENDS
