Labour productivity is one of the factors that make a difference between good and bad performance.

Speaking at the ministry’s award ceremony in Gaborone on Monday, Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake said to compete with the world, one of the critical issues that needed to be addressed was to develop human resources.

He said they had set up reforms office with a structure that had provided for performance improvement coordinators and performance focal persons who were driving the reforms and coordinating the performance management activities at land boards and departments.

The minister said they continued to prepare performance annual plans, agreements and development plans on an annual basis where employees drew their contributions in the form of performance objectives, indicators and targets to be carried out for the upcoming financial year.

He said the exercise attained alignment of contributions across the ministry and assured alignment to fully support the broad goals at national level such as poverty reduction, economic diversification and the general deliverables to government priorities geared at improving the lives of Batswana.

Mr Mokalake said they had provided for performance monitoring to facilitate perpetual analysis of performance through service provision monitoring tools, weekly checkpoint meetings between supervisors and supervisees and quality assurance teams.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship and Parliament Affairs in Lesotho, Mr Selibe Mochoboroane said performance Management System (PMS) has transformed the performance culture by improving individual and ministry performance in a systematic and sustainable manner.

Mr Mochoboroane said the approach ensures efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and said he has no doubt that PMS philosophy is vital for the achievement of the nation’s Vision 2016 on ‘Prosperity for All.’ ENDS
