Letlhakane Police Station reasonably resourced

19 Jun 2018

The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi says the Letlhakane Police Station is reasonably resourced commensurate to its current operations in terms of staffing levels.

Minister Kgathi said upon completion of the new Letlhakane Police Station, which was at design stage, the overall resources needed would be reviewed for purposes of alignment to its expanded operations.

“I am not aware of officers in the Boteti East constituency who have not been issued with sufficient police uniform and accoutrements. Available records reflect that all police officers and special constables in that area were issued with new uniforms in May 2018 across the ranks,” said minister Kgathi.

He said Special Constables were part of the Botswana Police Service, and as such, were barred from active politics and political party activities.

In this regard, he said the amendment of the Police Act which was recently passed by Parliament has clearly prohibited such participation by any employee of the Botswana Police Service.

Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked for an update on the status of the Letlhakane Police Station, and whether there were officers in the Boteti East constituency who used uniform that they were supplied with while at Police College.

Mr Lelatisitswe further asked if Letlhakane Police Station Special Constables were allowed to partake in political activities. ENDS
