Chinese business community donates to senior citizens

Over 100 senior citizens in Francistown East constituency got a helping hand from the Chinese Business Community of Francistown who donated  150 comforters and 150 blankets.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said it was through the grace of God that the senior citizens received the donation.

Mr Makgalemele, who is also the Member of Parliament for Shoshong, also thanked the Chinese for the gesture saying the community should continue to assist the less privileged such as senior citizens.

He also implored the recipients to take care of the donation.

For his part, Chinese Business Representative, Mr Wei Holl explained that the donation was worth P32 000.

He explained that the donation would would not only make the recipients happy, but would also give them warmth and dignity.

In the past, he said the Chinese Business Community in Francistown had also done a number of charitable events worth over P120 000. Mr Wei explained further that the Chinese business community would continue to assist

Batswana in whatever means and further create employment for the youth as well as boost the local economy.

For his part, Member of Parliament for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy also thanked the Chinese community for the gesture.

However, he pleaded with Chinese business community to donate different stuff such as books and computers next time.

Mr Billy further explained that the donation was not free as the donors raised money to buy the donated items.

The elderly were also tested for non-communicable diseases such as sugar diabetes and high and low blood pressure by a team of Chinese medical doctors and nurses based at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.  Ends
