Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Shaw Kgathi left for Cote d’ Voire on July 23 to attend the fifth Session of African Union Conference of ministers in charge of sport.

A press release from the Ministry stated that the conference themed: Harnessing the power of sport to contribute to the broader government development agenda, would discuss the dissolution of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) as per the resolution taken by African Union Heads of State in 2008.

It further stated that the session would provide a forum for ministers and experts from member states, sports confederations and other stakeholders in the African Movement to share experiences and learn from each other on harnessing the power of sport to contribute to national development agenda.

The release said the conference would provide a forum for examination of the declining performance of most African teams at major international sport events and measures required to improve performance.

The conference would also consider inclusive sport development through the contribution and participation of women and people with disabilities at sport events and sport administration, states the release. ENDS
