The Ghanzi brick moulding and house construction project, under the Integrated Poverty Alleviation and Housing Scheme, has produced 46 houses since its commencement in 2001.
Answering a parliamentary question on behalf of Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Kitso Mokaila informed Parliament on June 14 that the project had a beneficiary complement of 11 people as at May 2018.
Mr Mokaila explained that the project’s objectives were to train households to acquire productive skills, train and assist households to manage their own businesses, as well as to earn an income.
The minister further said the project aimed to train and assist households to build their own houses through self-help practices.
“The project objectives have been achieved as beneficiaries have been trained in producing standard building materials such as blocks and stock bricks.
They also receive allowances from revenue generated from the project,” explained the minister. Ghanzi North MP Mr Noah Salakae had asked the minister to state progress of the project and whether its objectives had been achieved. ENDS
