Stock theft concern for whole country

14 Jun 2018

Botswana police have registered 117 livestock cases over the past three years in Boteti East constituency. Sixty-eight cases were registered in 2015, followed by 29 cases in 2016 and 20 cases last year. Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi said stock theft remained a concern for the whole country. He explained that the police usually staged stock theft operations covering Khwae, Mosu, Mmatshumu, Mmeya, Mokubilo and Letlhakane in Boteti East. He said two police officers, a Sub Inspector and a Constable, were convicted and dismissed from the Botswana Police Service in 2016 for involvement in stock theft. However, he said there were currently no police officers on suspension for involvement in stock theft in Letlhakane. Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to state the status of stock theft in the constituency, and whether it was true that some police officers were suspended for involvement in stock theft.
