Programme not all about livestock

13 Jun 2018

A perception by some youths that the poverty eradication programme only deals with livestock projects has led to some shunning it, leaving them wallowing in unemployment.

However, 32-year-old Bomponye Mogoiwa of Letlhakeng has a different view, saying in an interview that the programme funds a variety of projects, citing her own hair salon.

She started operating this April, with her business partner, Ms Kealeboga Bogosi, aged 30, and that they were provided with equipment such as a driers, steamers, hair relaxers and other essentialsto start operation.

“We were also trained prior to being funded in aspects like makeup, manicure and pedicure as well as body massage. We were also drilled on the essentials of business management and with these skills we hope to grow our business,” she said.

Ms Mogoiwa said at the moment, their priority was saving up for some body massaging equipment, though expensive, as there is no other business offering the service around Letlhakeng.

Her partner, Ms Bogosi noted that they decided on a hair salon after developing a passion for hair plaiting during their boarding school days.

She said they reach out to customers through door to door, and that existing challenges are outweighed by benefits, which makes quitting unlikely.

They mostly specialise in hair dressing at the moment, with much of their customer flow taking place at month end. ENDS
