Makgadikgadi Epic unlocks tourism opportunities

13 Jun 2018

Since its inception in 2014, the annual Makgadikgadi Epic has grown tremendously over the years. The event, which is on its fourth year is scheduled for July 12-17 July, this year.

Briefing Tutume sub district council local leadership, Botswana Tourism marketing manager, Mr Thabang Segaetsho said they have increased the days of the event to include the Presidential long weekend holidays.

Usually, he explained, the event was held on a weekend and as such giving the participants and spectators just few days of fun. He noted that this year they had decided to extend the days to include the public holidays.

Although the Epic is a tourism event, it also incorporates different forms of activities such as quadbiking, skydiving and boat rides, which had proved over the years to be the peoples’ favourites.

He nonetheless highlighted that the event would be held at Sowa Town just like last year due to the damages caused by flooding, which had left the area unsuitable to host the event.

Mr Segaetsho said despite the relocation, Nata residents would still benefit from the event as well as other villages which make up Nata Sanctuary Conservation Trust such as Maposa, Manxotae and Sepako.

He said they have already started advertising and have taken on board all stakeholders on board and are expecting 65 international skydivers. ENDS
