Economic Stimulus Programme develops Gakgatla

12 Jun 2018

Kgosi Lenyetse Moshapa of Gakgatla has applauded government for providing his village with developments such as electricity and kgotla ofiices.

In an interview, Kgosi Moshapa said the kgotla offices were built through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in 2016, and that they have been completed and handed to them this year.

He pointed out that the offices have brought more appealing looks to the main kgotla, citing that since its completion the area looked more professional.

He further said they could now do their work diligently, noting that each and every government employee has their own office which made it easier to have privacy and work without any disturbance. However, Kgosi Moshapa said although the offices were complete, utilities such as electricity and water were not ready for use although they were promised that electricity would be working in a short period of time.

He also said the water system in the offices was not working, forcing them to use pit latrines.

Kgosi Moshapa said he was pleased that his village has been electrified through the ESP, adding that it was a blessing for the village as it would attract more investors.

“The population of the village is starting to increase as more people are seeking residential accommodation in our village due to the developments,” he said.

The village leader said even though the village was electrified, some households had not yet been electrified, saying works to install power cables was slow.

He, however, said he was one of the people who were already enjoying having electricity in their households.

Although Gakgatla is experiencing some developments, Kgosi Moshapa noted that they were disappointed as they were promised a tarred road that was to connect their village to Gamodubu and the A12 road.

He revealed that they were informed that the road would not be constructed as the budget does not accommodate it, as government was currently focusing on tarring the Thamaga/Kubung road.

He further emphasised that the road was going to shorten their distance to Gaborone from their village. ENDS
