Mallane makes mark in video production
12 Jun 2018
Mr Phenyo Mallane, a business management graduate and managing director of Mokwena Dynamics, a company which offers a variety of services including video and photo shooting, says he decided to change his career path after realising that there was more demand for video production. The company also does graphic designing.
After completing his studies, he partnered with two of his friends and started an events management business. Their clients would often enquire about video services, that is when Mr Mallane found a niche and started video production services.
He pointed out that in 2010 he started working with Changeta Boy Productions in Gaborone to harness his skills in video production and earn a living on the side. From 2011 until 2016 he sharpened his skills at Richard Photo studios where he learnt to use different softwares and video techniques.
With the savings he made from working at the two production companies he was able to buy equipment to start his business even though it was not enough.
In 2011, the young entrepreneur decided to apply for the Youth Development Fund to grow his business and was funded with P68 000. That is how his company was born.
“I wanted to be my own boss,” he said. The company currently employs four full-time and two part-time employees.
What differentiates his business from other video production companies is that they do live programming and are able to highlight events on screens.
He also said they recorded talk show programmes and they have reasonable packages for clients, indicating that all this helped them to secure more clients.
As every business has its own challenges, Mr Mallane pointed out that one of his major challenges was high rental which he said made it difficult to meet their monthly budget, adding that sometimes the equipment also took a long time at dealers when taken for service.
He, however, said he launched new services of supplies and business consultancy, saying the money was able to support the business when the video production wass slow.
The aim, he said, was to work with the media for marketing, citing that currently social media market them well. ENDS
