Lack of land hinders plots allocation
07 Jun 2018
Tutume Sub-Land Board has at least 16 161 pending land applications which have not yet been assessed for allocation eligibility.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi in Parliament on Wednesday.
He said 14 978 applications have been pending for more than 12 months, adding that there was no land to allocate because the land was awaiting land servicing and layout plans.
Mr Moipisi said the Tutume Sub-Land Board prepared base maps in all villages and submitted them to Tutume Sub-district Council on July 12 2017 for preparation of detailed layout plans.
The assistant minister said the layout plans were still being processed, saying they would continuously engage the sub district to finalise the layout.
The MP for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the minister to state the number of pending applications for land allocation at the Tutume Sub-district, and how many of such applications had been pending for more than 12 months and why.
He also wanted to know when would the the sub-land board clear the backlog. Ends
