Unreliable water supply hinders horticulture in Boteti

Geoflux consultants who conducted a study on the strategic Environmental Impact Assessment for Boteti Horticulture in May 2018 have revealed that it would be risky to undertake irrigated agriculture due to unreliability of water supply from Boteti River.
In his response to a parliamentary question on June 6, Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Mr Patrick Ralotsia said that there was need to establish reliable alternative water sources in the area so as to progress with the intended horticulture in Boteti.
He said his ministry would continue to engage the community further on the various alternatives.
Further, the minister informed Parliament that there was one officer allocated to Boteti as the subject matter specialist adding that there were four general agricultural extension workers in different extension areas.
He said Ms Kitso Liposwa a senior technical officer who specialised in horticulture was responsible for Letlhakane area.
MP for Boteti East Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister the progress of horticulture in Boteti area, the number of officers allocated to Boteti East to promote horticulture in the constituency. Ends
