Youth in Maun have been encouraged to utilise programmes that are offered at the village’s community life centre.

Speaking in an interview, youth empowerment officer at the department of youth under Love Botswana Outreach, Ms Gaekgone Lesego said the programmes offered  included fire by nite and creative arts.

“These programmes focus on young people’s spirituality, physicality, social and all other aspects through appropriate entertainment, games, talent shows, movies, and teachings,” she said. She further said the fire by nite programme was for youth aged between 13 and 14 years. “Prior to the event, the youth get to play pool and football,” she said.

Ms Lesego indicated that the activities were held every Friday during school terms from 7pm-830pm. “For this term it has been held from July 19 to August 2,” she added. She noted that transport was provided at the Old Maun Mall next to Bimbos.

“We pick them up at 6:30pm and then drop them off again by Bimbos at 9.30pm,” said Ms Lesego. She further said for next term, the event would be held from September 2 to November 28. She said the creative arts programme meetings were held on the first two Saturdays of every month where young people explored their creative ability by composing songs, dances, drama and music among others.

“They are then given a platform to present their performances at the fire by nite event, church and schools. Every young person who wants to be part of the programmes is welcome,” she said. She also indicated that the programmes offered a safe environment where teenagers could interact as Love Botswana Outreach mission aimed to raise responsible leaders for Africa. ENDS
