Monument offers business opportunities

05 Jun 2018

National Museum and Monuments director, Mr Gaogakwe Phorano has invited young Batswana to make business proposals to be funded through the National Environment Fund.

He noted that the fund has P38 million to give by end of September.

Mr Phorano made the appeal during an occasion to mark the handing over of waste bins by Lira Security for use at the Tropic of Capricorn Monument.

He challenged youth to tap into the ongoing developments at the monument and establish businesses. Mr Phorano noted that the monument attracted lots of people and appealed to the youth to venture into projects such as catering, rest rooms, campsites and fuel points needed at the site.

He said it would not be sustainable for government to engage in such projects hence the youth could take advantage of the opportunity.

He said young people in Mmaphashalala and Dovedale must utilise the Youth Development Fund and other forms of government funding to set up projects at the site.

“I do not think it will be sustainable for government to establish toilets here, young people must tap into such projects and build pay toilets,” he said. Other viable projects, he said, included a pay parking lot.

He appealed to the community to take care of the monument. ENDS
