05 Jun 2018
Presidential Directive CAB 27/2013 directed that Madirelo Training and Testing Centre (MTTC), Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF) and Roads Training Centre (RTC) be transferred to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Parliament heard.
Responding to a question from Gaborone Central MP, Dr Phenyo Butale, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila said following the rationalisation of ministries in 2017, internal consultations to transfer the RTC to the Ministry of Tertiary Education (MOTE) had started and were on the process of being concluded.
Parliament also heard that RTC was no longer being transferred to Botswana University of Science and Technology (BUIST) as initially communicated in a meeting held on 31st March but was going to MOTE.
In recent months, he said “my ministry has met with MOTE to advance the transfer.”
Parliament also heard that there were no plans to privatise RTC.
Dr Butale had asked the minister to update Parliament on the transfer or movement of the RTC to BUIST, and to further state when was the last time members of staff were consulted and briefed.
He also wanted the minister to state whether there were any plans to privatise RTC. Ends
