PEEPA placement in order

05 Jun 2018

The Public Enterprises, Evaluation and Privatisation Agency (PEEPA) was not established by an Act of Parliament, but through a Presidential Directive following approval of the Privatisation Policy in 2000.
Acting Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni said government underttook regular reviews and rationalisation of ministerial responsibilities.  He said the reviews and rationalisation were intended to, among others, re-align ministerial portfolios where government deemed it necessary to do so.

He said PEEPA was placed at the Office of the President in accordance with Section 50 (4) of the Constitution.

Gaborone Central MP, Dr Phenyo Butale had asked the minister to brief Parliament on the current placement of PEEPA at Office of the President.

Dr Butale also wanted the minister to state whether the placement was in line with the Act that established PEEPA, and the procedure that was followed in transferring the organisation. Ends
