Lobatse town Mayor,  Malebogo Kruger has said events such as the anticipated Heritage Marathon to be staged in Lobatse in October can boost the economy of the town.

Kruger was speaking at a press conference held in Lobatse to engage media on the upcoming event.

She said such events could boost the economy of the town through small businesses, among others.

She also said athletics events promote good health and that they could also help to cultivate an interest in athletics among residents.

Briefing the media on the marathon, Heritage Marathon coordinator, Sonny Sethibe said the sporting event woiuld unearth and promote heritage sites in Lobatse as well as spread public education on the importance of heritage structures not only in Lobatse but the whole country.

Sethibe further added that the event would boost the economy of Lobatse and help to diversify the economy of the town.

Sethibe further said the intention was to use heritage sites around the country as business spots.

That, he said would help in preservation for future generations, boosting local economies as well as reviving small businesses.

The Heritage Marathon will be held in Lobatse on October 13 and the event is coordinated by Lobatse Town Council, Lefika Athletics Club and Manyana Community Development Trust. ENDS
