New leader promises transformation
28 May 2018
Goemeone Letebele, who retained Ghanzi regional football Association chairmanship without a challenger on May 26, says grassroots development and women league football topped his agenda list.
After their regional annual general meeting, Letebele told BOPA that during his 2018-2020 tenure, he will do all to make sure that there was youth (both male and female) and female leagues in Ghanzi region.
Letebele appreciated that teams in his region had male youth steams, opining, however that football development would remain a mirage if there were no youth leagues.
Also, he said coaches, referees and administrators courses were crucial for the betterment of football.
Letebele acknowledged that sport infrastructure remained a challenge, but he was hopeful that once Ghanzi Mini Stadium was completed the situation would improve and teams would benefit from gate takings as opposed to the current scenario.
He said currently, collection of gate takings was a challenge as most playing grounds were not securely fenced. In addition, Letebele said Ghanzi region football which in the past was marred by controversy and football politics over the years was now healthy to attract sponsors, hence he said they were now ready to lobby sponsorship from private entities.
Also, he said they were banking on the P50 000 grant from BFA to each region, towards youth and women development, as per the association’s promise.
As the committee has new faces, he was hopeful they would come with fresh ideas, which would take the football in their region forward.
New faces in his committee are his deputy, Tshepho Ditlhabang, Tiny Tshukudu, elected as secretary, Kegolotswe Bojase who filled treasurer post as well as Fana Mothibi, and Mosiame Baoke elected additional members. Moemedi Koogane who was part of the outgoing committee was elected as an additional member.
For their part, team representatives called for sub division of Ghanzi region, which runs from Ncojane to Kuke.
They argued that the region was too wide as such teams were overwhelmed by travelling expenses to honour their fixtures. ENDS
