There is no budgetary provision for a municipal abattoir in the western part of Boteti Sub-district, Parliament has been told.

Responding to a question on July 22, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said though she appreciated the need for the abattoir, she could not ascertain when it would be built. Currently, Ms Tshireletso said cattle from the western part of Boteti Sub-district were slaughtered at Letlhakane municipal abattoir.

As for the vaccine and animal disease control measures, the assistant minister said her ministry through Boteti Sub-district council worked with meat inspectors from Ministry of Agriculture to ensure proper meat hygiene for cattle that are slaughtered.

Boteti North legislator, Mr Slumber Tsogwane had asked when will the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development consider building a municipal abattoir to cater for the western part of Boteti Sub District given its huge cattle population.

Mr Tsogwane also asked the minister to state the vaccine and animal disease control measures in place. ENDS
