Council poverty eradication projects pay dividends

24 May 2018

Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA), through the home economics division, has funded 310 projects of which 300 are operational and 10 non-operational.

This was said by KAA council chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela during a council meeting in Kanye on May 21.

He said a number of beneficiaries had improved their livelihood ranging from providing basic shelter to providing basic necessities for their families.

He said the authority also supported beneficiaries by engaging them during workshops.

Mr Dibeela explained that the KAA participated in the international poverty eradication conference that was held in Gaborone whose theme was: Leave no one behind: The fight against poverty, exclusion and inequality.

He said two beneficiaries from bee keeping and upholstery exhibited at the conference, and made sales amounting to P5 200 collectively.

He said the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs was allocated P4.5 million to fund approved projects in the Southern District, adding that the Environmental Health Division has continued to engage five small-scale contractors and 11 medium-scale contractors as at April 2018 to collect refuse within the sub-district.
