Sefalana opens another supermarket

Sefalana Group of Companies has been commended for reducing unemployment in the country.

Officially opening the second Sefalana Shopper in Letlhakane this week, Boteti Mining general manager, Mr Johane Mchive said the company’s reports showed that its staff compliment had increased from 233 at establishment in 1974 to over 3 000 last year.

He noted that the new supermarket employed 53 people attesting to its promise of sustainability and capability as an employer of choice.

Mr Mchive noted that the company’s store portfolio was spread throughout the country consisting of 24 cash and carry outlets, four hyper supermarkets and 24 retail supermarkets operating under Sefalana Shopper.

He also noted that after 40 years of operation in an ever changing business environment, the Sefalana Group remained the only listed company without a controlling shareholder.

This, he said, allowed the company to maintain the status of a true Botswana enterprise for the people of Botswana by the people of Botswana.

He wished Sefalana steady business growth leading to employment creation and poverty eradication among the people of Botswana.

The company board chairperson and former vice president, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe said the company offered an extensive and diverse range of business operations, and that it had a clear intention of eradicating poverty.

He urged the Letlhakane business community and entrepreneurs to not overlook the retailer as the sole service provider, saying if a farmer had fresh vegetables, they could supply Sefalana.

Dr Kedikilwe congratulated the 53 employees of the newly opened supermarket, saying in the era of widespread unemployment across the country, they were fortunate.
