Who snatches crown tonight

22 May 2018

Township Rollers and Jwaneng Galaxy supporters will face an anxious 90 minutes on May 23 night before knowing the destiny of the league championship.

Both teams need victory in their last match to win the BTC Premiership League title.

A victory against Extension Gunners at the National Stadium at 8pm will be enough for Rollers who are two points clear at the top to successfully defend their crown and seal a record-extending 15th domestic league title.

On the other hand, Galaxy must beat Mochudi Centre Chiefs in a simultaneous match at the University of Botswana Stadium and hope for Rollers to stumble against Gunners to allow the Jwaneng team to lift their first ever premiership title.

Mapalastina will go into their encounter with Gunners in confident mood having won their last two league matches.

In their previous league match, Mapalastina handed the high-riding Miscellaneous a comprehensive 3-1 defeat with Bogosi Mfila, Joel Mogorosi and Edwin Moalosi on target. Before that, coach Nikola Kavazovic’ men came from behind to beat Union Flamengo Santos 4-3 with Mogorosi (brace), Simisane Mathumo and Mthokosizi Msomi scoring.

They should, however, not expect an easy match against Itumeleng Duiker’s men as Mapantsula played to a goalless draw against Gaborone United and beat TAFIC 2-1 in their last two assignments.

Galaxy are also in destructive mood at the moment having scored 12 goals in their last three matches with players like Tebogo Sembowa, Thero Setsile and Patrick Kaunda in prolific form. Sembowa scored a hattrick when they beat Security Systems 4-2 in their last match.

Meanwhile, there will be a final day tussle to avoid relegation between TAFIC, Security Systems and Sankoyo Bush Bucks this afternoon.

A win for 14th placed TAFIC against Black Forest at Francistown Sports Complex, coupled with defeat for either Systems or Sankoyo, will see the Francistown team escaping relegation. However, a draw, coupled with defeat for Systems and Sankoyo, might save TAFIC from relegation. A defeat on the other hand will condemn Matjimenyenga to the First Division North.

Systems will face Orapa United at the Lobatse Sports Complex while Sankoyo take on Police XI at the Otse Police College Stadium. The afternoon matches will kick-off at 3.45pm. Ends
