Legodimo earns living from waste paper

21 May 2018

Many business gurus always testify that there is business in anything that one puts their passion into.

Many successful business people testify that there are where they are because when an idea popped up they took action to build the idea, with some saying they started small and had to deal with failures along the way to be where they are.

Ms Ditshebo Legodimo of Mokatse village says such people have inspired her to pursue her dream to make a living out waste paper.

Ms Legodimo said her desire was catapulted by a certain woman she watched on Botswana Television’s Sedibeng programme who made beautiful artefacts from waste paper.

She said since 2015, she has been making different household paper products among them vases.

The self-taught Ms Legodimo further said she has realised that when one puts all their effort into an idea to earn a living, they can succeed regardless of hardships.

She said there were times when things got really tough, as her products did not sell, but she never lost hope and believed that one day a breakthrough would come.

Ms Legodimo said she has found new love in working with paper and she follows her instincts to design.

She said besides using waste paper, she uses paint, clay and oil to make finishing touches though grease is also very good.

Ms Legodimo thanked the community and government departments, especially the tribal office, for buying her wares.

She said she desires to learn more to sharpen her skills and ensure much better and more appealing products.

In addition to the waste paper business, Ms Legodimo also runs a laundry, thanks to the poverty eradication programme.

She said she found it important to venture into several businesses so that they support each other as she does not want to depend on one which may disappoint her as time goes on. BOPA
