BPC upgrades power supply in Palapye

16 May 2018

Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) is upgrading its power distribution in Palapye due to high demand for electricity.

Speaking to BOPA, BPC Area Engineer, Mr Molepi Letileng attributed the high demand for power to the village’s growth and infrastructural development, notably shopping malls.

Mr Letileng said BPC therefore came up with the initiative to improve its electrical power supply to meet the demand in Palapye, revealing that the newly constructed Palapye Junction Mall for instance, needed more power.

He said BPC had decided to change the smaller cables to larger ones to accommodate large capacity of current flow, for easy distribution and accessibility.

Mr Letileng said BPC was cautious about any changes they made to avoid faults that may occur when connecting cables, adding that BPC informed its customers about electrical disruptions well on time.

On other issues, he pointed out that BPC was concerned about destruction of gum poles supporting power cables due to burning of domestic waste, stressing that it was against the law to burn waste, especially besides power poles.

He requested people to promptly report all electrical faults to BPC for quick response. ENDS
