Chobe Enclave Fun Run brings communities together

06 May 2018

African Bush Camps Foundation Trust manager, Obert Manyeza says the Chobe Enclave fun run helps bring together Parakarungu, Satau, Kachikau, Kavimba and Mabele communities together.

In an interview on the sidelines of the Chobe Enclave fun run on May 5, Manyeza said the run which was introduced last year, helped residents to interact and have fun together.

He said the event had earned support from the community and tribal leadership such as dikgosi.

Manyeza said the foundation partnered with Jane Bubear Sport Foundation of London last year and introduced the fun run for the five villages.

Although the turnout was not impressive this year, Manyeza said the event was nonetheless exciting because this time around only residents of the five villages participated.

He said the African Bush Camps Foundation which ran a campsite at Linyanti was involved in a number of projects aimed at empowering the community adding that it had started a chicken project in Parakarungu, bought sewing machines for a project in Kachikau and had paved the Kachikau Primary School Disability Unit.

He said a lot of the community empowerment projects in the villages involved schools as they were an integral part in the building of societies.

Manyeza said the foundation was an annual sponsor of the schools’ Independence sport tournaments.

Martin Winter of the Jane Bubear Sport Foundation said the foundation started to sponsor annual fun runs in Zimbabwe and last year they partnered with African Bush Camps to extend the same to Botswana.

He said the foundation donated t-shirts for the runners and helped in paying costs for the run.

He said he was hopeful the run would continue to grow.

At the same event the foundation donated toiletry to the Kachikau Primary School Special Unit.

Kgosi Mmualefhe Mmualefhe thanked the participants and stated that the race did not only unite communities, it also played a role in their health.

The first run was conducted in Mabele village. This year’s run was divided into two, five and 10 kilometre races and the winners received medals. ENDS
