Buffer zone complies with EU regulation

The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi says the 10km buffer zone imposed on some Zone 4a crushes and some crushes in Ghanzi and any other green zone area bordering Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) endemic area is in compliance with the European Union regulations.
Mr Molebatsi said the regulations are No 206/ 2010 of March 2010 which specifies that animals of an infected zone are not to be marketed in the European Union.
Boteti North MP, Mr Slumber Tsogwane had asked the minister to explain the rationale of a 10 km buffer zone which has no physical barrier along Ngamiland and Makgadikgadi National Park fence in relation to Zone 4a in the Boteti Sub-District. ENDS
