Ministry reviews compensation rates
21 Jul 2013
The Ministry of Environment Wildlife and Tourism through the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) is yet to start the implementation of the revised compensation rates to include 100 per cent compensation for properties destroyed or killed by elephants and lions, says Minister Tshekedi Khama.
Answering a question in Parliament, Minister Khama said the ministry, in consultation with other stakeholders, is currently in the process of reviewing the proposed compensation rates at market value.
He stated that the process also includes finalising the instrument that guides implementation of the new rates. MP for Boteti North, Mr Slumber Tsogwane had the minister if he is aware that DWNP has not implemented the revised compensation rates for damages caused by certain game species since its proclamation.
Mr Tsogwane also asked the minister to state the period that it will be implemented if that is the case. ENDS
