Council ready to take action against noisy outlets

Kweneng District Council will not shy away from taking action against liquor outlets known for making noise in Gabane.
District council chairperson, Mr Jeffrey Sibisisi told Gabane residents during a kgotla meeting recently that Kgosi Seeletso Pule had been complaining about bars which had turned out to be a law onto themselves.
Such bars are said to play loud music and operate beyond stipulated hours.
Mr Sibisibi said the Kweneng District Council would be compelled to apply its bye-laws to deal with the problem.
He cautioned the Gabane community that many of those who operated such outlets were local residents hence the need for the community to also engage them whenever possible.
He said the council had been raising awareness and engaging the operators about the need to adhere to the stipulated times and noise limit.
“If they continue to make noise, we will close. We have the bye-laws,” he warned.
He said the council had given the liquor outlets ample time to clean their acts, and that time had come for the council to start closing down those continuing to dissent.
Mr Sibisibi also said the country’s informal sector played an important role in the country’s economy, and that the council would allow them to operate but within the parameters of the law.
He said the informal sector could not be allowed to erect permanent structures or to cook at their operational sites as it would be hazardous.
Earlier, Kgosi Pule had told the council chairperson that they have a history of some liquor outlets in the village which did not adhere to set rules.
Kgosi Pule regretted that they have long complained about the issue, but that nothing had been done to assist the community.
He also regretted that schools in the village were not benefitting from the Constituency Development Fund, yet some were dilapidated.
He said the constituency fund could be used to address such challenges, and noted that there was a gap between the community and school authorities.
He, therefore, said there was need to bridge the gap and assist the school where possible.
During comments, some residents complained about dusty roads and shortage of transport for the village police officers. ENDS
