Dunns Botswana has donated clothing valued at P45 000 to the 1 Military Garrison, Area S soldiers whose property was guttered by fire early this year.
Presenting the donation, Dunns senior regional manager in Botswana, Ms Thembi Mothibi said Dunns was a small company but felt the need to heed the call by the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) to assist the affected members.
Ms Mothibi said although the clothes were for both males and females it was unfortunate that there were no children’s sizes as most of the Dunns stores in the country cater for bigger sizes.
The 2nd Brigade Commander, Brigadier Molefi Seikano appreciated the gesture by Dunns stores saying it was in line with the National Vision pillar of Compassionate, Just and Caring.
He noted that Dunns was not only contributing to the nation building but was also contributing to the security of the nation because they are donating to the defenders of the nation.
Brigadier Seikano implored the affected soldiers and their dependents to accept the reality, pick up pieces and move on.
The Deputy Mayor of Francistown, Councillor Joyce Ndove commended Dunns for showing that they were not only interested in profit making but understand that they have a social responsibility.
One wing of the barracks block at 1 Military Garrison in Area S on January 5 was gutted by fire that destroyed property belonging to up to 25 people who were accommodated in the block.
However, no lives and injuries resulted from the fire.
A number of institutions have been making monetary and in kind contributions to the affected soldiers and their family members and a bank account was also opened with one of the commercial banks towards the assistance of the BDF fire victims. ENDS
