The South East District Council (SEDC) is preparing for its second agricultural show scheduled for Tlokweng on June 30.

The SEDC agricultural show chairperson, Mr Alfred Lekgatho said preparations for the show had started, adding that its success would be determined by cooperation between all stakeholders.

However, the show committee chairperson regretted that public officers had not responded to the show as they would have anticipated, adding that some were lagging behind.

Mr Lekgato said other than the exhibits, government departments would be allowed to showcase their products and services.

SEDC deputy district commissioner, Mr Richard Boitshwarelo pledged government support to the south east farming community to ensure a successful event.

He said government, through the office of the district commissioner, only helped to facilitate the event and cautioned that his office was not organising the show.

“We will always be there through various government departments, we will support you to organise the show,” he stated.

He said government departments had been designated into various sub-committees to assist farmers with knowledge, expertise and resources to organise the show.

Mr Boitshwarelo further stressed the need for the district to up its game in organising the show, adding that the district was the prime producer of milk and chicken.

He also noted that everything big started small and urged the organisers to soldier on as their efforts would show growth with time.

He said agriculture was the livelihood of every Motswana and its significance could not be underestimated. ENDS
