The opening of Shoprite Supermarket in Palapye is expected to improve the local economy and create employment for residents of Palapye and surrounding villages.

Shoprite Supermarket manager, Mr Kgosi Shashane said this in an interview after the opening of the supermarket recently.

He said Shoprite would continue maintaining low prices for consumers as they played a pivotal role in the growth of the supermarket countrywide.

Shoprite Supermarket opened its doors at the newly opened Diphalane Junction Mall in Palapye.

Mr Shashane said his retail store which used the slogan ‘lower prices you can trust always’ has managed to attract diverse consumers and earned consumer trust over the years.

He said being trusted by consumers had propelled them to open other branches and bridge the market gap across the country.

He noted that they opted to open Shoprite Supermarket in Palapye because their market research had revealed that the village was heading to being the center of trade and that the market was promising.

“Shoprite is known locally as it sells fresh quality products produced locally which has contributed to the growth of businesses of local producers,” he said.

He further said their intention was to incorporate liquor shops in major Shoprite supermarkets in order to broaden their services.

Mr Shashane said the opening went well and that they were satisfied with the turn up, adding that the numbers showed that consumers had been waiting for the opening of the supermarket.

The store appreciated Palapye customers by running a competition where the lucky winner walked away with a DStv decoder with 12 months subscription and shopping vouchers.

It also gave merchandises such as Shoprite branded t-shirts, caps and bags.

He said the Palapye Shoprite branch was their 16th shop in the country and that it has created 72 jobs for locals.

One consumer who graced the opening of Shoprite, Ms Naledi Kaelo said she was impressed by the high quality of fruits and vegetables, adding that the selling price was affordable and that Shoprite employees were helpful. ENDS
