Concerned Tafic fans want club back
21 Jul 2013
A group of Tafic Sporting Club supporters calling themselves ‘the concerned group’ has selected an interim committee to oversee resuscitation of their club’s fortunes in the upcoming season.
The selection of such a committee resulted from a special meeting they called on July 20 at the Tatitown Kgotla in Francistown to discuss the clutter surrounding the club.
The interim committee chairman, Gilbert Makombo, explained that they called the meeting to discuss the future of their team and said as supporters they wanted the club to be returned to them and be run as a society.
Makombo stated that the club leadership, whose term in office ended on June 15, had failed the team and its supporters who made Tafic what it was today.
Nonetheless, he said they appreciated what the committee under the leadership of Humphrey Nawa had done for the team for the past three years.
He explained that the committee had failed to deliver in some areas, among them, their lack of cooperation, which he said had led to the running of the club by supporters’ structures for about 17 games in the last season.
He also explained that the meeting aimed to come up with some resolution that would pave way for the current Tafic chairman to surrender the team to the supporters.
He was also worried that their club seemed non-existent with players having been turned into free agents while other clubs in the premier league were busy in the transfer window beefing up their squads.
Meanwhile, a six member interim committee was selected together with five advisors to the committee.
Team elders were also asked to assist the committee in preparing the team for the new season.
The committee was given the mandate to locate Nawa and call him for a meeting where they would ask him to surrender the team back to the society with all its equipment, registration books for players and club regalia.
Further, they were also tasked to liaise with Botswana Football Association (BFA)to communicate the status quo at the club and changes they wanted to implement.
The committee was also mandated to find out if the team had paid the affiliation fee to the BFA. ENDS
