Passion drives Senwelo

It is often said that education is the key to success; with education and skills development being the basis for human resource development as part of Botswana’s Vision 2036 pillars, this became a driving force behind a young man who was determined to make a difference in the lives of many.

Driven by the poor examination results announced every year, 26-year-old Moemedi Senwelo was inspired to open a tutorial centre meant to help curb this challenge.

The center, Word Crackers Tutorials, which has over 12 branches across the country, operates from the experience and goodwill of the directors of the former business, who have over seven years in the tuition industry.

Speaking in an interview, Senwelo said he has founded Freedom Books, which became the first company to publish BGCSE revision books and has authored Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics revision Books Series.

The Mochudi-born lman has gone around schools in Botswana teaching students on purpose discovery, study skills and giving them success motivation.

In 2017, he got recognition for his positive impact in Botswana’s education where he was awarded Best Youth in Academic Excellence.

Despite his success, Senwelo’s entrepreneurship journey has not always been a bed of roses.

His company faced a lot of challenges such as lack of funds to sustain its daily operations and with the company being new, attracting new customers also proved a great difficulty as they had  to go an extra mile.

He explained that he became determined to not let these challenges hinder him from realising his dream, which is why he sought funding from government in 2017 and his application was successful.

“The money I got from the Youth Development Fund was the capital injection my company desperately needed in order to upgrade and grow into the standard it is today.

The funds have picked up my business and put me in a better position against my competitors,” he noted.

Although Senwelo said the Youth Development Fund grant became his company’s saving grace, it has become hard to maintain demands for his services, but he will gladly accept the challenge and soldier on.

He advised aspiring youth entrepreneurs to never give up on their dreams and strive hard to realise them in order to better their lives.

In future, he hopes to expand his business and move towards publishing e-books and reach out to Southern Africa. Ends
