Spar reaches out to the poor in community

Newtown ward Councillor, Mr Bethuel Botumile has thanked Spar Boiteko Junction for their efforts in improving the lives of the community where they operate.
Mr Botumile said this at the handover of a project by Spar Boiteko Junction which included a fence and a one bedroomed house, which was an extension to the existing two bedroomed house.“You have indeed done a marvelous job by helping this family. The area that you have identified encompasses a majority of customers who buy from your supermarket,” he said.
Mr Botumile noted that the assistance was in line with Vision 2036 pillar of human and social development which stressed the moral tolerant and inclusive society.
“The human and social development stresses that by 2036 Botswana will be a moral tolerant and inclusive society that provides opportunities for all. It further states that all members of the society should contribute to the social up-liftment of the family, community and the nation at large,” he said.
He noted that it was through such ideals that government encouraged such good deed, adding that government alone was not able to perform all functions.
“Government embraces such kind of assistance to the nation. We therefore appreciate companies which see the need to plough back to their clients,” he said.
He noted that the footsteps of the Spar Boiteko Junction could be traced, adding that they were noticeable as they had this year also assisted some students with school uniform at Motetswane Primary School and also provided assistance at Serowe Prisons.
He therefore encouraged the staff to continue with the noble gesture by assisting where government was unable to assist.
For his part, the branch manager, Mr De Klerk Pharithi noted that their supermarket was committed at giving back and changing the lives of the community where they made business by lending a helping hand where possible.
He noted that they had realised the need to help others who were disadvantaged in order to improve their livelihood hence identifying Ms Kagisano Seane to assist. “Our parent here had a backyard garden which was not in use as there was no fence. This provided easy access to cattle and goat which destroyed her garden. We therefore developed the garden and fenced the whole yard,” he said.
He saidMs Seane’s five children joined hands to assist in extending the house by building another room. “We have also employed one of her children to work at our store so that there can be some sort of income for the family, as there was no breadwinner,” he said.He expressed hope that provision of decent housing for the family would uplift their lives.
Ms Seane expressed appreciation to the assistance and compassion rendered by Spar Boiteko Junction. ENDS
